Let It Shine

As I was praying last night and thanking God for all of the gifts He has given me, he gave me a verse:

No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
Matthew 5:15‭-‬16 NLT

He showed me that worrying about labels or rank or doing things the way others do them is a bushel. That bushel of accepted practice, standard practice, roles, ranks, and titles only serves to filter the light. By worrying about if I was a Gold or author or writer or mom or Christian or blogger and setting my behavior accordingly instead of what I was called (or told!) to do, I was only snuffing out the full power of my giftings rather than just letting them shine and reach far.

If we keep walking under those bushels, only a fraction of the light can be seen, but if we just put down the basket, every ray of light can reach exactly where it was supposed to, drawing others to HIS light. It's not our light we are projecting, which means we have to be good stewards. We are the lamp stands, placed strategically by the master, the one who gives us all light, and that shade is our own beliefs and ideals, so I don't know about you guys, but I'm not filtering His light in my giftings anymore.
